A new 300cc Suzuki Gixxer incoming

We expect Suzuki to unveil the all-new sports bike at EICMA, if not the 2018 Tokyo Motor Show.

Launched last year, the Suzuki GSX 250R, quarter-litre sports bike introduced by Suzuki failed to live up to expectations of motorcycle enthusiasts. The performance from the old 250cc motor felt insufficient and just seemed to lag behind its competitors. Now, it seems as if Suzuki wants to fix that mistake with a bigger and better performing sports bike.

The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer recently filed a patent for an all-new 300cc motorcycle. We expect Suzuki to unveil the all-new sports bike at EICMA, if not the 2018 Tokyo Motor Show. The patent drawings of the motorcycle, which is likely to be called GSX-R300, suggest that it could feature a sharp design similar to the smaller GSX-R125 that is sold in various international markets.

The major talking point of the new sports bike appears to be its new engine. Detailed blueprints of the engine show a liquid-cooled unit with a four-valve head and an air intake placed higher and under the fuel tank. And while the GSX 250R featured an under square unit, the new motor is expected to be more oversquare, like other engines that power the GSX-R lineup, as it will allow it to make more horsepower. We expect the GSX-R300 to produce around 40PS of power.

Other future additions include upside down front forks and a radially-mounted front disc brake. The tubular frame that uses the motor as a stressed member is another major addition. The GSX-R300 is expected to be launched in 2019. It will compete against the Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the Benelli 302R.

Apart from the fully-faired sports bike, expect Suzuki to bring out its naked version, the GSX-S300, as well. Earlier this year, Suzuki’s manufacturing partner had released patent drawings for a new 300cc sport naked and GSX-S300 could very well be this motorcycle.
