Over 3000 units of Indian Motorcycles recalled in USA

NHTSA, USA, has stated that not only can this lead to fatal accidents, but can also cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

Indian Motorcycle in the USA has issued a recall of 3,341 motorcycles manufactured in 2018 over a faulty switch. Located on the right side of the switchgear, the switch is prone to corrosion, which is likely to lead to an electric short. Whenever the wireless key fob is nearby, it may start on its own without any inputs from the rider.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), USA, has stated that not only can this lead to fatal accidents, but can also cause carbon monoxide poisoning if the motorcycle is parked in a closed space. So far, two such instances have been reported, but fortunately, there haven’t been any reports of injuries.

The Minnesota-based company has issued a list of 11 models that are to be recalled. This includes the Chieftain, Chief, Chief Classic, Chief Dark Horse, Chieftain Classic, Chief Vintage, Chieftain Dark Horse, Chieftain Elite, Chieftain Limited, Springfield and the Springfield Dark Horse. Indian Motorcycle has also stated that it will replace the defective switch in the recalled models free of cost.

Considering many of the Indian motorcycles in India come to here as CBUs, there is a possibility that some India-spec bikes might also be affected. We have contacted Indian's PR agency to know if the recall will be issued in India as well and are awaiting an official statement.
