Maruti, Tata post double-digit growth
New Delhi: Automakers Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors on Sunday posted double-digit growth in car sales in March.
India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki said that domestic sales grew by 16 per cent in March at 1,48,582 units from 1,27,999 units in same month last year.
Meanwhile, Tata Motors said that its passenger vehicles sales grew by 31 per cent due to good demand for its utility vehicles (UVs).
“The passenger car segment declined by 4 per cent while the UV segment grew by 223 per cent clearly showing a trend of growing customer base for the UV segment,” said Tata Motors.
Maruti Suzuki reported a 14.9 per cent increase in total (domestic and exports) sales at 1,60,598 units in March as against 1,39,763 units in the year-ago month. Sales of mini segment cars, including Alto and WagonR, witnessed a 21.1 per cent jump to 37,511 units during the month under review, from 30,973 units in March 2017, said the company. Sales of the compact segment jumped by 13.5 per cent to 68,885 units as against 60,699 units earlier.
Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp crossed the 75 lakh units sales mark in FY18, a company official said.
