Ambani with $38 bn wealth richest Indian for 10th year
Mumbai: Mukesh Ambani, who lives in world's costliest home Antillia, is once again the richest Indian tycoon with a whopping $38 billion personal wealth. Ambani continues to wear the richest Indian's crown for the 10th successive year, a feat never achieved before by any Indian resident businessman.
Forbes in his annual list of 100 richest Indian businessmen says Ambani whose Reliance Industries, RIL, holds sway over India's energy sector added to his personal wealth a staggering $15.3 billion last year only.
His wealth saw a phenomenal rise of 67 per cent from $22.7 billion last year to $38 billion this year "making him the biggest dollar gainer on the list and one of Asia’s top five richest".
Apart from that, total value of India's 100 richest tycoons has also gone up to a mind-boggling $479 billion, that is an increase of 26 per cent from earlier $374 billion in 2016, the report added.
Earlier this year, Amabni dethroned for a brief moment Microsoft founder Bill Gates as world's richest person with stocks of Reliance Industries zooming at the bourses. The launch of RIL's telecom arm Reliance Jio in October last year has also helped the shares of RIL.
Last year, RIL ventured into India's telecom sector with Ambani spearheading the new entrant with its free vice calls and free data services for a period of 180 days, thus helping the company garner over a 100 million customers in just 170 days of its launch, Ambani had earlier revealed at a media briefing.
