Banks to go on all-India strike on August 22, says report

Mumbai: The United Forum of Bank Unions, an umbrella organisation of major bank unions in country, has announced that it will observe a nationwide bank strike on August 22 in protest against proposed reforms in banking sector. The bankers say they are facing some other issues also that need to be addressed at the earliest.

"We have given a strike notice. The strike will be on August 22 spread over the entire banking sector," news agency IANS quoted C H Venkatachalam, All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) General Secretary, as saying.

According to Venkatachalam, the bank associations have already given the notice for the agitation. The notice was given two days back. The IANS report further says that UFBU has nine major unions in the banking sector under its stewardship. It has also contacted Indian Banks Association (IBA) with a plea to speed up resolution of issues related to wage revision.
