Xiaomi beats Samsung to capture No. 1 spot in India
New Delhi: Chinese mobile handset maker Xiaomi emerged as the market leader in the Indian smartphone market with a share of 25 per cent, followed by Samsung with 23 per cent pie in the fourth quarter (Q4) of calendar year 2017, according to CyberMedia Rese-arch (CMR) Mobile Handset Review Report.
The third and fourth positions were also held by Chinese brands. Lenovo came at third position with nine per cent market share in the smartphone market and Vivo and Oppo together shared the fourth position with six per cent market share.
In the feature phone market, Reliance Jio’s handset brand LYF scaled a new high, emerging as the market leader with 27 per cent market share in Q4 of 2017, followed by Samsung with 14 per cent market share, said CMR.
However, Apple continued its unchallenged dominance in premium and super-premium mobile phone segment,
In premium smartphone segment (in range of Rs 26,000 to 50,000), Apple had a marketshare of 48 per cent, followed by Chinese brand One Plus with 23 per cent and Samsung with 10 per cent market share. In super-premium smartphone segment (priced above Rs 50,000) Apple had absolute hold the market with a 73 per cent share, followed by Samsung which had a market share of 20 per cent and Google at seven per cent.
In affordable smartphone segment (less than Rs 7,000) Xiaomi held a marketshare of 25 per cent, followed by Samsung which came at 16 per cent. However, in value for money smartphones segment (prices between Rs 7,000 to Rs 25,000), Sams-ung remains the market leader with 30 per cent marketshare, followed by Xiaomi at 28 per cent.
