Currently, Jio is the only player in the telecom market to offer VoLTE, while others are still running it on a pilot basis.
Mumbai: Amidst other telecom players alleging Reliance Jio of causing market disruptions, the telecom giant is expected "unfold a new chapter" with the launch of its dirt cheap, 4G VoLTE feature phone at its annual general meeting (AGM) on Friday.
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) which posted a robust 28 per cent rise in its Q1 earnings, will be hosting its AGM from 11 am, where Mukesh Ambani will elaborate on the company’s performance. The Reliance Jio 4G VolTE Lyf phone is expected to feature a few top Chinese original device manufacturers including Zhejiang Techain Electronics Technology Co., Shenzhen CHINO-E Communication Co, Crave and Megaphone. Sticking to its game plan of providing premium yet affordable services, it is expected to combine the best of Jio’s super cheap 4G data services with that of its VoLTE technology.
Currently, Jio is the only player in the telecom market to offer VoLTE services. Others like Airtel, Vodafone and Idea are still running it on pilot basis and are yet to launch it commercially.
The launch of the phone follows Jio’s ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan’ offer which single-handedly took over the telecom market last year. As of March, Jio had recorded over a user base of over 100 million subscribers.
