Pan won't need dad for for child of single mom
New Delhi: Soon children of single mothers will need not provide the name of their father for getting a PAN card.
This is proposed by I-T department in a draft notification seeking to amend rule 114 of the I-T Rules, 1962 and permanent account number application Forms (Form 49A and Form 49AA).
At present, furnishing of father’s name is mandatory for the allotment of PAN.
As per the draft it is proposed to amend the I-T rules so as to provide that furnishing of father’s name will not be mandatory for a person whose mother is the single parent.
The I-T department has invited comments from public till September 17, 2018. “In order to provide that father’s name shall not be mandatory in PAN application Forms, where mother is the single parent, an amendment in PAN application Forms is proposed to provide that mentioning father’s name in the aforementioned Forms shall not be mandatory except in cases where mother is the single parent and mentioning mother’s name shall be mandatory in cases where father’s name is not furnished and mother is the single parent,” said the draft.
Currently while father name is mandatory to get a PAN card, people have an option to select name of either father or mother to be printed on card.
