I am indebted to the people of Tamil Nadu for giving us this tremendous victory,” Ms Jayalalithaa said. “I said there is no word in the dictionary and I wish to express my gratitude in the form of actions of the new government. I will also strive to fulfil all promises made to people in the manifesto,” she said.
The AIADMK supremo said the victory had reinforced the fact that “I am by the people and I am only for the people”.
“When 10 parties opposed me, and when I did not align with any party, I believed in God and formed an alliance with the people. My life has always been dedicated to the people of Tamil Nadu The people did not let me down. I have always said that the people of Tamil Nadu have trust in me, and that fact has been reinforced,” she said.
Earlier in the day, Ms Jayalalithaa said the election results have put a “permanent end” to family rule in Tamil Nadu and thanked the AIADMK cadre.
“Parties who believed opinion polls more than the people of Tamil Nadu have tasted defeat in this election. I will continue to work towards making Tamil Nadu No. 1 in all sectors,” she said.
