DMDK women’s wing leader and party founder Vijayakanth’s wife Premalatha has been booked for allegedly instigating voters to accept money from the DMK and the AIADMK to vote in the coming Assembly elections.
Ms Premalatha allegedly made the controversial remark during a public meeting she addressed here recently, the police said.
A case had been registered under the Representation of People Act and the IPC following a complaint by local AIADMK workers with election officials and on the basis of a report submitted by the officials along with the recordings of her speech at the meeting, they said. According to the police, Premalatha, in a veiled reference to the DMK and the AIADMK, allegedly told the gathering “some political parties will offer to give Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 per vote. You ask them 'one lakh per vote”.
The DMDK is contesting the May 16 elections in alliance with four-party People’s Welfare Front with Mr Vijayakanth declared as the chief ministerial candidate.
