MSK Prasad elevated as chairman of selectors
Thakur to represent BCCI at ICC and ACC meetings, while Pawar nominated as alternate director.
Former India wicketkeeper M.S.K. Prasad was elevated as chairman of the BCCI senior selection committee while Jatin Paranjpe, Sarandeep Singh and Devang Gandhi were included in the five-member selection panel with Gagan Khoda staying as the fifth member.
The decision at the 87th annual general meeting here on Wednesday of the cricket control board was in defiance of the Lodha Committee guidelines, which had called for a three-member panel instead of five with all members having Test experience. Ajay Shirke was elected as BCCI secretary unopposed though the Lodha panel had also questioned the election.
“We had communicated to the Lodha panel before and yesterday also. We will submit the second progress report, which is new. One can question anything but the BCCI has to function on a day-to-day basis and we have the 500th Test starting tomorrow. The secretary is the principal officer whose term had come to an end. So going forward, he is the empowered person carrying out day-to-day affairs subject to the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. All our decisions are subject to court orders,” Shirke said.
The board has also called an emergent special general meeting here on September 30 to consider the amendments to the rules and regulations as recommended by the Lodha Committee.
“That is part of the performance, I mean of our compliance report so we are sticking to that,” he said.
Asked if the board woukld adopt a revised constitution on that day, Shirke said, “It is subject to all factors which are external to the BCCI.”
Former India seamer Venkatesh Prasad was retained as chairman of the junior selection committee that includes Rakesh Parikh, Aashish Kapoor, Amit Sharma and Gyanendra Pandey.
