Shikhar Dhawan seeks consistency

Donning the opening batsman’s role for Team India is no easy task.

Donning the opening batsman’s role for Team India is no easy task. With a laundry list of legendary names in its wake and shouldering the weight of expectations of over a billion fans, it’s a dangerous landmine. But it’s a role that Shikhar Dhawan has embraced with great fortitude.

The stylish left-hander has been part of six overseas tours with team, but the upcoming series against the West Indies will be his first in the Caribbean Islands, a challenge for which he is leaving no stone unturned in terms of preparations.

“I am excited to go to the West Indies. It is a big series and I am preparing well for it. Of course, it is going to be challenging over there,” said Dhawan.

“Once I go over there and play the practice matches, I will assess what shots I can play. I will plan accordingly,” he added.

The 30-year-old is keen to increase his consistency at the top of the order alongside Murali Vijay, especially with KL Rahul pushing his case for the spot. “My aim will be to be as consistent as I can in the coming season. If you look at the past three years, if there is one thing I would like to rectify it is to be more consistent,” he added.
