Yuvraj is back in the team on merit, says Kiran More

It might have come as a surprise for many, but former cricketers backed selectors’ decision to recall veteran all-rounder Yuvraj Singh into the T20 squad for the upcoming series in Australia.

Former India wicket-keeper and chief selector Kiran More termed it as a “great comeback”. “Yuvraj has been in a top from lately. He has been among runs in the domestic cricket. If you look at his performance for Punjab in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, it shows that he has been recalled in the team on merit,” More said. The left-handed batsman made a case for his selection with two back-to-back half-centuries — against Rajasthan (78*) and Services (98) in the domestic one-dayers.

Former India batsman and Mumbai coach, Pravin Amre said selectors have made a right call by bringing Yuvraj back.

“With his current form, he will provide a much-needed support to the middle-order in the Australian conditions.”

More defended Yuvraj when asked if age is against him considering T20 is a fast-paced format. “Age is not a factor. You can’t judge a player from his last year’s form. Selectors have been watching him closely in the recent matches and his current form must have convinced them.”
