Leader of the House in South Delhi Municipal Corporation Subhash Arya said that the decision by the three municipal corporation will save 10 lakhs children studying in around 1,700 municipal schools. “These children below 10 years age are most vulnerable to toxic air covered the national capital since last five days. We have decided to close our school on Saturday November 5. By closing municipal school tomorrow, we are trying to saved these children from exposure to toxic air for two days — Saturday and Sunday,” added Mr Arya.

“The decision was taken today at a meeting held in the wake of severe pollution Delhiites are reeling under. And, since the smog is worse during the morning, it was decided to close the schools,” said Mr Arya.

The schools have also been instructed to hold prayers inside the classrooms.

The civic bodies have also instructed its officials to take strict action, including imposition of fine, against those who are found burning and throwing garbage in open.
