The accused, identified as Alok (27), Manoj (28) and Chandrashekhar (30), stay in Saraswati Puram and Pashchimabad in the JNU campus and their parents are employees of the university. A senior police official said on Sunday evening, the three men after drinking alcohol were walking around the campus when they noticed the female student and started to follow her. The student, after meeting her friends, was on her way to her hostel room.
“After the woman reached an isolated place, the accused started passing lewd comments and gestures at her. Already uncomfortable after noticing the trio following her for a long time, the woman protested and asked them not to follow her and leave her alone. This angered one of them, who started abusing her. The other two followed suit,” said the police official.
Angered by such behaviour, the woman entered into an argument with the men, who started beating her in retaliation.
“After the men started abusing the woman, she had an argument with them and said that she would complain to the authorities. This angered the accused and they thrashed her. The woman started screaming and shouting but the three men held her and did not let her escape” said the police official.
