AAP MLA, 2 others hurt in South Delhi attack
City legislator Kartar Singh Tanwar was attacked by four unidentified men in south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri area on Sunday.
Mr Tanwar was in his SUV with an associate and driver on Sunday morning when the four men stopped the vehicle in Fatehpur Beri and hit its windshield with iron rods.
The assailants then scuffled with the SUV driver and the AAP legislator’s associate. Mr Tanwar was injured while trying to defend them and his driver was injured too.
The police was informed and all injured persons were taken to AIIMS. “Unidentified men staged the attack with iron rods near Katwaria Sarai area in south Delhi. The legislator was travelling with his friend. The driver of the car and the legislator has been bruised in the attack. Both of them were taken to AIIMS for medical treatment and discharged after first aid,” said Ishwar Singh, DCP (South).
City AAP leader Dilip K. Pandey said that the Chhattarpur MLA was campaigning for the MCD byelections when the incident took place. “During by elec. campaign, car of Chhattarpur MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar attacked while he was inside. One person injured badly. Old threat-trics Looks like someone not ready to accept d defeat easily, resorting to violence. Attackers are yet to b identified in cctv (sic),” Mr Pandey tweeted.
“Murderous attack on AAP MLA, Kartar Singh Tanwar. Chhattarpur. Driver is injured. Attackers were carrying pistol. Kartar is safe,” senior party leader Ashutosh tweeted.
Mr Tanwar was campaigning for the party for the bypolls in 13 MCD wards, scheduled to be held on May 15 in the national capital.
“The MLA’s driver managed to note down the car registration number of the attackers’ car. We have identified the attackers, they all are from a village in Mehrauli area. Attackers had some property dispute with the legislator’s friend, Ajit Tanwar, who was travelling with the legislator in the car,” said the DCP.
“We have got the complaint. A FIR under IPC Section 427 for causing mischief or damage to the property will be filed against the attackers,” said a senior police officer.
