AAP students condemn police ‘brutality’ at NIT

Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) along with students of the Delhi University held a march near Arts Faculty, North Campus, on Friday in solidarity with the students

Aam Aadmi Party’s student wing Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) along with students of the Delhi University held a march near Arts Faculty, North Campus, on Friday in solidarity with the students of the National Institute of Technology in Srinagar. Strongly condemning the brutal assault by the police on the students in Srinagar, they demanded action against those involved in the issue.

The CYSS’ Tiranga march came a day after the ABVP staged a protest on the same issue on Thursday.

CYSS state president Anupam Kumar and vice-president Habibur Rehman and other CYSS members from every DU college led the march and shouted slogans like “J&K sarkar sharam karo, rashtravad ki thekedari band karo,” “Lathi dando ki sarkar, nahi chalegi abki bar” while criticising both the BJP and J&K People’s Democratic Party.

This solidarity march, which started from Arts Faculty, covered colleges like Hindu College, St. Stephen’s, Hansraj, Ramjas, KMC, Daulat Ram, and then finally ended at Arts Faculty.

Mr Kumar while addressing the protesters said, “Whatever happened in NIT was shameful. Through this march we all demand that the non-teaching staff should be charged. The staff and police officials who were involved in the whole issue should be suspended immediately. We want the J&K government and the college administration should provide security and justice to NIT. PM Modi is a coward, he betrays students. CYSS have always stood and fought for students rights and will do it till the end.”

Expressing concern on the ongoing assaults in the universities, Mr Rehman said, “We want the officials who are responsible for the NIT issue to be suspended immediately.”
