Ambedkar University to waive SC, ST and disabled fees

City-based Ambedkar University has decided to extend a full fees waiver to students from the SC, ST and disabled categories from this academic session.

City-based Ambedkar University has decided to extend a full fees waiver to students from the SC, ST and disabled categories from this academic session. Any student with annual family income of less than '6 lakh would be able to study in the university for free.

“The university officials provide full and partial fees waivers to students who are in need of support given their economic background. Students who have a family annual income less than '6 lakhs are considered for the award of fees waiver. The Ambedkar University has instituted a differential fees structure for different academic programmes, ranging from '1,100 to '2,210 per credit of course work for most cour-ses,” a varsity official said.

The university has also created a student welfare fund in order to support the students in need by bearing the cost of study material like textbooks, lodging expenses equivalent to the amount that is required to avail of the Ambedkar University hostel facilities and any other comparable needs of students.

“At present, the fees constitutes not more than 10 per cent of the operational costs. However, it is also the stated policy of the university that no deserving applicant, is denied the opportunity of studying here merely due to her/his inability to pay the fees. So we came to this decision that no student from SC, ST and disabled category will pay any fees. Also we have created a student welfare fund which would help students in need in bearing the costs of study material like photocopying, textbooks, and even subsistence,” he added.

The decision would apply to students from both undergraduate and postgraduate level courses.

While 85 per cent of seats have been reserved for students domiciled in Delhi, 15 per cent are for students who apply from outside.
