Arms row: Delhi University teachers seek action against Dusu president
Condemning the display of arms by the Dusu president as a show of muscle power, DU teachers have demanded disciplinary action against him.
Recently, a photo was uploaded on Amit Tanwar’s Facebook wall showing his supporters holding arms at an event in Dusu office, kicking up a row.
The controversy comes within a month of Mr Tanwar being elected as the Dusu president this year, who also represents the RSS student wing ABVP.
The teachers, in a joint statement, alleged that such photos prove that the ABVP, with a face of a student’s organisation, is nurturing goons and lumpen sopporters under its shadow.
“Such display of muscle power is seen not just after the elections, but was also part of ABVP’s election campaigning strategy. The ABVP-led Dusu is completely removed from the issues of students. Students across the country are fighting against fee-hike, commercialisation of education, anti-student policies. But, the ABVP is diluting them by such display of muscle power,” the teachers said.
The Dusu president on the other hand, claimed that the guns belonged to security officers of one of the guests who had come to pay homage to his social activist brother, Pradeep Tanwar.
