Awareness drive on cyber crime by police
The Delhi police is going to launch a drive to create awareness among schoolchildren about the drawbacks of social networking sites. Moreover, they will also create awareness for women safety. The drive is going to be launched next week.
According to sources, around 11 sub-inspectors of the Delhi police will be assigned to create awareness among the students of Delhi-NCR government schools about the drawbacks of social networking sites. The drive is an initiative by Delhi police’s special police unit for women and children (SPUWAC).
“The drive is going to be launch from next week and the process is still under process,” said Robin Hibu, joint commissioner of police and head of SPUWAC.
Meanwhile, schoolchildren are being victim to cyber bullying. There are a number of cases in which someone has impersonated and created any of the students’ fake account on a social networking site and posted derogatory and insulting information. Such an emotional abuse rendered the said student vulnerable to depressive symptoms and their teachers advised them to seek professional help from mental health experts.
“Most of them were not even aware that hacking into someone else’s account on a social networking site is a crime. They did it either for fun or to take revenge after their relationships went sour,” said a senior police official.
This is a situation faced by several children in the city. As the children and adolescents’ access to technology is increasing in today’s times, cyber-bullying is becoming a growing concern, added the official.
