B.Com. Honours a favourite among foreign students

B.Com. Honours continues to be the course of choice for the foreign students this year too at the Delhi University.

B.Com. Honours continues to be the course of choice for the foreign students this year too at the Delhi University. As per the varsity authorities, 110 foreign applicants from the 3,368 total applications have selected B.Com. Honours as their first choice.

“The university has witnessed a quantum jump of 868 applications more this time as compared to last year. In 2015, about 2,500 students had applied for various courses in the university out of which most had shown interest in B.Com. However, this year also B.Com. has mainta-ined its dominance among the foreign candidates. The other courses that have made a mark among them are English Honours, BA Pass and Political Science Honours,” said Amrit Kaur Basra, deputy dean, Foreign Students Registry Office (FSRO).

“This time, due to a boom in the cut-off for foreign students as well, the cut-off percentage has reached 96 for B.Com. Honours and 98 for both English and Economics. Although we have received applications from the foreign category students for undergraduate, postgraduate as well as for the faculty of management studies, most of them have applied for undergraduate courses,” she added.

Every year a large number of students apply for various courses at the DU from different countries. This year students from the African countries have applied in large numbers. Except Pakistan, many students from the Saarc countries, Madagascar, Africa and Mongolia have applied to the university.

The deputy dean maintained that about 200 students have been already enrolled for various undergraduate courses in several colleges, which include colleges like SRCC and Miranda House. The admission process is still going on and there are chances that the figures may increase. “This is for the first time that students from Afghanistan have shown interest in the B.Com. course, whereas 10 students from Maldives have come for admission to the same,” Ms Basra said.

According to the FSRO statistics, 306 applications have been received so far for 10 seats of the MBA course. Two students from Mongolia have been enr-olled in Miranda House, while a student from Bangladesh has got admission into Physics Honours. Four girls in Afghanistan have shown interest in Political Science Honours and many have been enrolled in Economics and B.Com. Honours at SRCC.
