The illegal leak of call detail records turned murkier on Wednesday as details of senior UP police officers linked to the scam have been revealed by the arrested UP police constable, Narendra Kumar, during his interrogation by the Delhi police.

The city police has also initiated action against BLS Management Solution Pvt. Ltd. accused of allegedly buying leaked CDRs. The company may lose its contract for the verification of visas, acknowledged by the ministry of external affairs, for indulging in malpractices.

According to a senior police officer, MEA officials have been informed about the illegal activities of BLS after which the department is likely to suspend the contract and necessary action will be taken.

The alleged role of a UP police sub-inspector, who was posted at the office of senior superintendent of police with Kumar, came to light during interrogation of the constable, who was formally arrested on Tuesday after several rounds of interrogation, an official privy to the city police’s investigation said.

The sub-inspector, who has not been identified, has been on leave after Kumar’s detention by the Delhi police. When a police team was sent to his home, it found that he was absconding, said a senior police official. However, there is no concrete evidence against him.

The sub-inspector became a part of the racket when he came to know about it. However, Kumar allegedly threatened to frame him and later offered him a chance to join the racket.

The Delhi police has already arrested Sanjeev Chaudhary, the senior manager of BLS Management Solution Pvt. Ltd. Several CDRs were recovered from the computers installed in the company’s offices.

The inspector-general of police in Kanpur has written a letter to the Delhi police commissioner complaining that his office had been dragged into the investigation as the arrested UP police constable was never posted at his office, as revealed by the Delhi police in its interactions with the media.

He demanded a retraction and apology as the constable had been posted at the office of senior superintendent of police, under surveillance cell.

“The arrested constable, Narendra Kumar, was never posted in my office. The Delhi police had by mistake named the IGP’s office while addressing the media. He was, at present, posted at the SSP’s office and earlier he was at the DIG’s office in Kanpur. We offer complete cooperation to the Delhi police in investigation,” said Zaki Ahmad, I-G of UP police, Kanpur.
