Cops crack murder case, woman among 3 held

Three persons, including a woman and her husband, were arrested in connection with the murder of a 55-year-old electrician in West Delhi’s Ranhola.

Three persons, including a woman and her husband, were arrested in connection with the murder of a 55-year-old electrician in West Delhi’s Ranhola. The police probe has revealed that the electrician, identified as Deshraj, was murdered after his son Rahul, a witness in a murder case lodged against the culprits, refused to give in to their pressure to turn hostile in the court.

According to a senior police official, the accused have been identified as Vicky, his wife Anjali and their aide Lalit. “Vicky is already in judicial custody. He hatched a conspiracy from within the Tihar Jail and roped in his wife, Lalit and a few others to kill Deshraj if Rahul refused to give in to their pressure to become a hostile witness,” said a senior police official. On the occasion of Holi last year, Vicky along with his friend Rakesh and a few others had allegedly murdered a man identified as Mohit because of some personal enmity. Rahul was a witness to the murder and was ready to depose in the court. After the murder, Vicky was arrested, said the police official.

When Rahul was received repetitive threats from Anjali and Lalit, he did not pay much heed to them and refused to give in. After his father’s murder, Rohit immediately complained to the police, who arrested Anjali and Lalit.

After interrogation, Anjali revealed that her husband was the mastermind of the conspiracy and they had stabbed Deshraj to death while he was going home after work. “After Rahul refused to change his statement in the court even after repetitive threats, Vicky ordered a hit on Rohit’s father. Anjali and her crew then stabbed Deshraj to death while he was on his way home” said the official.

The police has arrested Vicky, Anjali and Lalit under Sections 302 (murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
