DCPs directed to update all crime records
Delhi police commissioner Alok Verma has directed all the district deputy commissioners of police to update their records at Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems with immediate effect. The police chief issued these directions following reports that only 40 per cent of the data had been upgraded in the CCTNS so far.
At a recent high-level meeting, the police chief said that the possibility to update previous years’ data should also be explored by hiring entry operators.
Special commissioner of police Taj Hassan stated that the performance of data upgradation of police stations like Anand Vihar, Gokulpuri, Greater Kailash and Shahdara was very good but that of Patel Nagar, Timarpur, Mehrauli, Sangam Vihar was not up to the mark. Mr Hassan suggested that district DCPs should made extra efforts to complete the data entry process.

The CCTNS project in Delhi Police is aimed at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of policing through adopting of principle of e-governance. CCTNS is also an IT-enabled state-of-the-art tracking system around investigation of crime and detection of criminals.

It also makes the police functioning citizen-friendly and more transparent by automating the functioning of around 182 police stations and improving services. It also provides the investigating officers with tools, technology and information to facilitate investigation of crime and improve functioning in areas such as law and order and traffic management as well. The commissioner also found a glaring gap between the number of persons arrested and the number of dossiers prepared.
