The Delhi police on Sunday questioned Kamran, a resident of Old Delhi’s Sita Ram Bazar, and a student of Jamia Millia Islamia. The police said Kamran had been in constant touch with JNU doctoral student Umar Khalid, who is absconding since the arrest of JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar.
According to the police, Mr Khalid is one among the nine students who organised the February 9 event, where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised, leading to the arrest of JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar.
“We asked Kamran some basic questions like how did he know Khalid, did he help Khalid in the JNU events, and if he knew where Khalid was hiding. Kamran said that Khalid was his friend, but he did not know where he was hiding,” the police said.
The police again questioned Mr Khalid’s friend and journalist Sadiq Naqvi along with another varsity student in connection with alleged anti-national sloganeering at the JNU campus. The police said Mr Naqvi was again called to join the investigation as he had been in constant touch with Mr Khalid. The police asked him about the whereabouts of Mr Khalid, but he replied in negative. Naqvi was Khalid's classmate in DU, where they both pursued graduation together
A police source told this newspaper that both Kamran and Naqvi were scolded by the investigators on being in touch with Mr Khalid.
Apart from Mr Kamran and Mr Naqvi, other people, including JNU students, were questioned by the police. So far, the police has questioned as many as 30 persons in connection with the case.
A list of around 50 people, associated with the event that took place on February 9, has been prepared by the Delhi police. The police has also asked the varsity administration to forward a copy of their internal enquiry report.
