IPS officer is new registrar at Jamia
A senior IPS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, A.P. Siddiqui, has taken over as the registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University for a period of five years on deputation.
Mr Siddiqui, a 1991 batch IPS officer, served as an additional director-general of police (headquarters) in Himachal before joining the university.
The 55-year old officer brings with him a wide exposure in key capacities in government as also teaching experience in the law faculty. “Before joining the police services, Mr Siddiqui, an LLM from Aligarh Muslim University, had taught law students in Jodhpur and Jabalpur universities. He is also gold medalist in B.Sc. (zoology hons) in 1986,” said an official statement.
Besides serving as district police chief in three districts of Himachal, he had served as superintendent of police, anti-corruption. “JMI has a lot of potential being a Central university and students should not develop a fixed mindset. They must work hard to take up contemporary challenges and prepare themselves to survive in the cut throat competition of today,” said Mr Siddiqui.
