The New Delhi Municipal Council and Ayush ministry are looking for a sponsor to fund the International Yoga Day being celebrated in the city on June 21.
The event, which will be celebrated for second time, will not be confined to the Central Park in Connaught Place, according to a NDMC spokesperson. The NDMC has been made the nodal agency for all preparations for the second year of Yoga Day celebrations.
The event will also be held in the other NDMC parks such as Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park and Talkatora Park to showcase yoga asanas.
The NDMC has also started recruiting teachers and trainers for its schools, who will assist and conduct rehearsals every weekend till the final event on June 21.
The BJP government at the Centre faced criticism for the huge cost of the event last year, that was estimated to be around Rs 30 crore. This time, officials seem to be tight-lipped about the cost of the merchandise and other paraphernalia to be used on the day. Overall cost of the event is expected to go up as more city parks have been roped in for the Yoga Day.
The Central Park will host around 15,000 people for the final day, which means the NDMC will order 15,000 mats and T-shirts for the participants. This time, LED screens will be another new element and will be put up around the Outer and Inner Circle of Connaught Place and in the other parks as well.
The NDMC has started preparing for the event and has started planning the main stage in all the parks hosting the event and finding anchors for the main show. Connaught Place and the Lutyens’ Zone are being beautified and trees are being trimmed, and water outlets and mobile toilets are being set up for the Yoga Day participants.
Like last year, the Ayush ministry is expected to send out promotional messages a few days before the International Yoga Day.
As per reports, the event had made it to the Guinness Book of Records for the largest yoga demonstration at a single venue with more than 35,000 people participating in the event last year.
