In spite of declaring a separate cut-off for the Kashmiri migrant quota for the first time, the Delhi University colleges have still not been able to fill up all the seats reserved for this category of students.

Even though admissions to the DU colleges on the basis of cut-off lists are over, the varsity is continuing to release merit list of students as a part of the second phase of its new admissions strategy. However, upset colleges are still waiting for the Kashmiri students.

Until last year, these students were assigned colleges by the university with almost 200 students taking admission under the same process.

“So far, we have been able to fill only four seats for the Kashmiri migrant quota in spite of keeping a supernumerary quota i.e. more than the total number of seats for them this time. Not only this, till last year migrants from only Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir used to get admissions under this category, but from this year it was opened for students from all across India,” Aryabhatta College principal, Dr Manoj Sinha, said.

North Campus colleges like Ramjas College are also facing a similar situation, but according to convenor Suresh Kumar, a student under the category has taken admission to physical sciences. “This student has been awarded Prime Minister fellowship and has secured 95.75 per cent,” he said.

On the other hand, the colleges which got over with admissions under the second merit list are still left with a few more seats for both general and SC/ST categories.

In order to fill up the remaining seats, the colleges will reduce the cut-off in the third merit list on Wednesday night on basis of which the next round of admissions will take place on August 4 and 5.

“If seats still remain vacant, then the college will notify the details of the vacant seats again on August 6 under the second phase of merit list,” a varsity official said.
