Even as the Delhi police’s special cell is on a lookout for at least two “suspected LeT terrorists” who sneaked into the city, highly-placed sources said that the actual numbers who infiltrated via Kashmir was much more. “As per our intelligence, based on Central security agency inputs, there were a group of 15 boys who had crossed the border about three months ago before splintering to different cities,” the source said, adding, “Some of them had come to the national capital to target some of the VIP areas.”
Others, the source added, went to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, where they are planning attacks. “During investigations it has come to the fore that some pictures of the Taj Mahal in Agra were taken for this purpose, which were recovered in possession of one of the terrorists arrested by the UP STF earlier,” the sources said, adding, “Besides, there were other incriminating material as well which was found.”
Sources said that even though the FIR in connection with the suspected “fidayeen and grenade” attack in the city was filed by the special cell on December 1, an operation is underway since about two months ago. “The Central security agencies had alerted the state polices about the infiltration of 15 boys through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir soon after they intercepted their movements,” a senior police officer said, adding, “The Delhi police was also told about this.”
Sources added that it was only after the Delhi sleuths, after months of surveillance and groundwork, learnt that at least two of the boys are hiding in Delhi that they filed the FIR.
“At least three different teams of the Delhi police special cell’s New Delhi Range are on hunt for the two suspects,” the senior police officer said, adding, “Raids are being conducted at several locations in the national capital and local police is also being roped in on several occasions before surprise checks.”
The police officials added that the Delhi cops are monitoring border movements very closely as they suspect that the two might sneak away following appearance about their “suspected” presence in the city on various television channels.
