Managing marriage and an extra-marital affair became difficult for 28-year-old Naveen Uppal, who was arrested by the Delhi police for killing his paramour Anjali Garg (40), whose body was found inside the accused’s SUV outside Bonta Park of North Delhi’s Maurice Nagar on Tuesday night.
Uppal shot Anjali dead at point blank range in her temple with a country-made pistol he had bought from Ayodha for Rs 30,000, the police said. After he murdered Anjali at around 8 pm on Tuesday night, Uppal called his uncle and wife to inform them.
“In order to save him, Uppal’s uncle made a PCR call that a woman had allegedly committed suicide by shooting herself inside Naveen’s car. Meanwhile, the accused also called Anjali’s elder sister and lied that her sister had committed suicide,” said Madhur Ver-ma, deputy commissioner of police (North).
“Uppal and Anjali were in a relationship for over seven years. They used to meet when Anjali used to visit her sister in Trinagar, where Naveen lives. They even had a 16-month-old daughter. Anj-ali, who was married and had a son from her marriage, was desperately in love with Uppal and was heartbroken when he got married to another wom-an three months ago,” said a police official.
According to the police, at 2 pm on Tuesday, Uppal called Anjali to meet him to discuss their future. After this, she gave her phone to her 17-year-old son and reached DU Metro station at around 3.30 pm. From there, Uppal drove her to Yamuna Expressway. It was only around 7.30 pm when they reached outside Bonta park, that he shot her at point blank range.
“In order to remove evidence, Naveen, after killing her, deleted calls from his phone stored in the automatic call recorder. However, since Anjali did not bring her phone with her, he could not delete the videos and WhatsApp chats on the basis of which she was threatening to disclose about their affair to Naveen’s wife,” said the police official.
Uppal was driving around with the deceased and was detained after cops found him with blood-stained clothes.
