Man arrested for cheating people of cash at ATMs
The Delhi police arrested a 38-year-old man, allegedly having Naxalite connections, for cheating people off their money at ATM’s through a unique technique. The accused, identified as Madan Ray, is from Jharkhand and works as a tailor in Badarpur. The cops had been searching for him for a long time, a source said.
The police source further said that seven of Ray’s associates, who hail from Jharkhand and Bihar and have alleged Naxalite connections, are absconding.
“Ray randomly used to go to various ATMs and would insert a blade under the ‘cancel’ button on the machine. When someone came to withdraw money, the machine would hang and after a while the disgruntled person would leave. Ray would then enter the ATM, take the blade out and withdraw the amount he desired” the source said.
One day, trying the same trick at an ATM in Panchsheel, when one such victim left irritated, Ray went in and withdrew Rs 5,000, but the man was not far when he received the sms regarding the withdrawal. “He quickly ran to the ATM, held Ray and called the police,” the source said.
