Man beaten up, abducted for non-payment of loan

A 24-year-old man was allegedly beaten up, abducted and held hostage by a financier after the victim failed to repay the loan he had taken from the accused in South Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar.

According to a senior police officer, the victim, Sunil, had taken a loan of Rs 30,000 from the accused, Niraj Choudhury (42), for a business venture. “Choudhury had given the loan to Sunil a few months back on an interest of Rs 500 per month.” said the officer.

Choudhury had given the loan on the condition that Sunil would pay him back the full amount along with interest by the first week of April. When Sunil could not come up with the money by the first week, Choudhury threatened him on phone a few times and said that he wanted his money back within a week.

“Unable to come up with the money, Sunil finally confessed to Choudhury that he was having problems gathering the amount and he would need some more time,” the officer said. Angered by this, Choudhury decided to send his men to teach Sunil a lesson.

On Thursday, a group of men reached Sunil’s residence, dragged him out and beat him up in front of public. “The men then took him in their car and went to Choudhury’s office in Kalkaji and thrashed him even more and took a video of the beating. They even made him write on a piece of paper that he had taken loan and was a defaulter,” said the officer.

Choudhury then threatened Sunil to repay the money immediately or else he would face worse circumstances and let him go. Sunil immediately complained to the police, who on his information, went to Choudhury’s office and arrested him. “Choudhury was arrested and we are on the lookout for his associates” said the police.
