A 27-year-old man was stabbed to death by unknown persons in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh, hours after he had left home over an argument with his brother. A senior police officer said that the incident took place on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

The police said that the deceased, identified as Uday Bhan, was found lying on the roadside a few kilometres away from Sarai Rohilla Railway Station. “We got a call at around 2 am that a youth was found lying in a pool of blood in Karol Bagh area. A team was sent and the victim was rushed to a nearby government hospital where he succumbed during the course of treatment,” a police officer said.

His family members told the police that he had left home around 12.30 pm on Friday night after his brother accused him of paying lesser rent. He worked as a security guard at a jewellery showroom in central Delhi.

He had planned to go back to their ancestral house in Gonda after the argument.

Bhan had been living in Karol Bagh along with his family. The official said that they have recorded the statement of his family members to know whether he had any enmity with anyone. “His family told the police that the deceased had an argument with his brother over petty issue. Bhan then left home at around 12.30 am. He was also carrying a bag. Bhan reportedly hired an autorickshaw to Kishanganj Railway Station,” the officer added.

“He was stopped by unknown persons on New Rohtak Road near H.G. Jewellery shop. The assailants asked him to hand them over all the valuables. When he resisted, the accused allegedly attacked him. The accused stabbed him and fled after the robbery. Passerby informed the police about the incident,” the police said.

The police said that it is examining the CCTV footage of nearby areas to get a clue about the assailants. The police has also questioned a few people in this connection. “Preliminary investigations suggest that robbery could be the main motive behind the murder. We are investigating the matter from all possible angles,” the police added.
