MCD polls: BJP to highlight work done by Centre
In the municipal bypolls to be held next month, the Delhi BJP will seek votes for the work done by the Union government for the national capital. Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said on Wednesday that Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Venkaiah Naidu, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had approved several policies for betterment of city infrastructure and people’s life. Mr Upadhyay said only due to the party’s commitment for development and betterment of the national capital, Mr Gadkari had approved ambitious decongestion plan for the city by constructing peripheral roads. “The Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) only talked about e-rickshaws, but the policy for their regularisation that benefited lakhs of e-rickshaw drivers was approved only after Mr Gadkari took a personal interest,” added Mr Upadhyay.
Similarly, the BJP also said recent urban development ministry notification under Mr Naidu’s leadership, allowing owners of small plots to start construction without approval of layout plan, was a boon for the city. “Mr Naidu’s initiative saved people from inspector raj and licence raj and also shows our leadership’s commitment to the people,” he said.
Mr Upadhyay said the MCD byelections are taking place as the Central government has opened the way for the development of city, but the Delhi government has wasted its 14 months indulging in politics of accusing the Opposition. The party’s candidates have made five promises for the bypolls. Releasing the first five promises for each candidate, Mr Upadhyay said that the BJP candidates were committed to the service of the people. “After these elections, we shall not have sufficient time to serve and hence in place of releasing manifestos, we have issued list of five promises based on the real problems of the wards going for the byelections,” he added.
“On one hand, the representatives of the Central government, MPs and the BJP-ruled municipal corporations have many achievements to their credit. However, on the other hand, the MLAs of Mr Kejriwal’s party are hardly seen amongst people. Development work has come to standstill in Delhi and the way in which the Kejriwal government tried to financially paralyse the municipal corporations shocked the people of Delhi,” said the Delhi BJP president.
