A pet Siberian Husky dog, out for a morning walk with its owner in Vasant Kunj Enclave, was allegedly abducted by assailants in a SUV on Monday morning.

Aftab Khan, the owner of the dog, claimed that at 6 am when he was out on a morning walk with his pet some men in a golden Toyota Innova all of a sudden abducted his dog. “The abductors were carrying pigs in their car, when my pet dog began challenging the thieves upon hearing the cries of the pigs, three abductors got down from the car and snatched my dog and fled in the car. It all happened in front of my eyes. I ran after them but they fled towards the Ridge area,” Mr Khan said.

The police has registered a theft case in this connection, but is yet to recover the dog or identify its abductors. The dog owner, meanwhile, said that a CCTV camera installed near the crime spot was found to be dysfunctional.

As the police continued its probe, the dog owner and his family launched a search for the dog using the social media. Named Zoru, the one-year-old Siberian Husky lived with Mr Khan, his owner, in Vasant Kunj. Zoru had been gifted to Mr Khan by his friend around nine months ago.

“He was only three months old when we received him. He was an integral part of our family and turned very active whenever he sensed threat to any of us. My children are upset after the incident, they are not eating as they are missing Zoru,” added Mr Khan.

“I could hear sounds of pigs inside the car. The sounds also drew Zoru’s attention and he chased and overtook the Innova. The occupants probably feared that his barks may draw the attention of locals and they tried to speed away, but my dog stood in front of the car. Fearing they would get caught, three of the men got down from the car and stuffed him into the vehicle before speeding away,” said Mr Khan.
