A five-year-old girl was brutally raped by a juvenile at Chandni Chowk area on Tuesday. The 16-year-old accused not only raped the girl, but also tried to strangle her. The girl was rushed to the hospital where her condition is said to be critical. Meanwhile, the police apprehended the accused and sent him to juvenile home.
“The incident occurred when the victim was sleeping with her family on a footpath at the Chandni Chowk area on Tuesday. The accused, somehow, took her away from there to an isolated area and raped her. After the brutal incident, the accused, fearing that he might get caught by the police, tried to strangle the victim. When he assumed that she has died, he ran away from the spot. Thereafter, a passerby saw her unconscious and informed the police,” said a police official. The police team admitted her to the nearest Asaf Ali Hospital, where doctor operated her, he added.
“During a preliminary examination the medicos confirmed that the victim has suffered brutal injuries of nail scratches on her upper body,” said the official.
The victim, who used to reside at Usmanpur slum with her family, had recently migrated to the Chandni Chowk area footpath after their slum was demolished recently. The accused is also homeless and used to live around the Chandini Chowk area.
The accused was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and was sent to a juvenile home. The police said that the accused has been book under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012.
