Family members of 50-year-old Mohammad Ikhlaq, who was lynched last year by a mob in Bishada village, Dadri, for alleged cow slaughter and beef consumption, met senior superintendent of police on Tuesday and demanded security, citing threat to their lives.

During the meeting, Ikhlaq’s elder son Sartaj, a corporal in the Indian Air Force, and his brothers Jaan Mohammad, Zameer and Afzal met the Gautam Budh Nagar SSP at his office in Sector 14 A.

“We met the senior police official and made him aware of every situation. The day after the forensic report was made public, we are witnessing threat to our families. The situation is no more same. I had stopped visiting Bishada village as I feel threatened,” said Jaan Mohammad.

However, the police said that it has assured security to Ikhlaq’s family members. Local intelligence unit officials are active in the village, if they receive any threat report then adequate security arrangements will be made for Ikhlaq’s family and relatives.

A statement from Gautam Budh Nagar SSP Dharmendra Singh’s office said Ikhlaq’s family members had met him and he assured them of security arrangements if there is any threat. As of now, there is no intelligence report regarding any threat.” Ikhlaq’s family stays in Indian Air Force quarters in Delhi and has already been provided with police security.
