In attempt to bring uniformity in the size of street signages, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation has directed that senior officials inspect each colony to ensure uniformity in size, colour and standard of all signages.

An order issued by the commissioner NDMC P.K. Gupta said that all street signages installed in each colony shall be inspected by the zonal deputy commissioner and chief engineer through the area junior engineer and it should be insured that all signages are of the size, colour and standard strictly in accordance with the specifications as approved by the NDMC. “Needless to mention that if any irregularity is noticed in any signages, the same should be rectified immediately,” added the order issued last month.

A senior NDMC official said that the engineer in chief has been directed to monitor the whole exercise and submit the action taken or compliance report to the commissioner. According to another senior civic official, the direction was issued at a high power committee meeting held under the chairmanship of Mayor Sanjiv Nayyar last month. “In the meeting it was pointed out that irregularities have been observed in display of the street signages installed by the NDMC in various colonies and areas indicating information about house numbers, name of the colony or other information,” he said.

It was found that there was no uniformity among signages installed in different localities even in the same colony. “Several complaints have been received on the non uniformity of signages. In the meeting it was decided that for uniformity of signages, the corporation simply needs to enforce already approved specifications for it,” he added.
