Any employee of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) who comes late to office will lose their salary for that particular in the near future. The biometric attendance system, introduced by the unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in 2008, is now being linked with the salary account system.

Of a total strength of 65,000, which include officers and staff, about 9,000 teachers teaching in municipal school are not covered under the current biometric attendance system. Sources in the civic body said that they would be also included in system in the near future.

Leader of the House Vijay Prakash Pandey told this newspaper that introducing the biometric attendance system in 2008 has ended manipulation in attendance records and the time has now come to ensure punctuality.

“Strengthening our biometric attendance system, in the next few months we will be attaching it with the accounts department, which will automatically deduct salary if any municipal employee or officer marks his/her attendance more than 15 minutes later than the start of office hours. We will ensure that no manipulation and tampering of attendance records take place,” Mr Pandey said.

The NDMC is also all set to get a face and eye reader in the upgraded biometric attendance system.

The NDMC’s contract with the agency which implemented the current biometric attendance system ended on January 31 and a new contract will be awarded in a few months. “We have given extension to the existing vendor and a tender will called soon for the purpose,” Mr Pandey said.
