Delhi University, which got over with the online registration process of the newly-launched B.A. vocational courses on Monday, has received nearly 6,000 applications for a total of 350 seats.

According to the university officials, there are two such courses for which the number of applications is more than 1,500. “Since we have received almost 6,000 applications for the 350 seats, it means for one seat about 8 students have applied,” a senior official said.

While Kalindi College is offering printing technology and web designing, Ramanujan College will have banking, fina-ncial service and insurance service along with IT development software. Healthcare management and retail management will be available in Jesus and Mary College and Maharaja Agrasen College will provide with TV programme and news production to the students.

“Each course has 50 seats. Applicants have shown a positive attitude towards these vocational courses. Even aft-er having such less number of seats, students have applied in large numbers. One reason is because these courses will lead to employability in future,” Prof. J.M. Khurana, DU students’ welfare dean ,said.

Over 1,500 applicants have shown interest towards banking operations and software development courses each.

The University Grants Commission had directed all the universities and colleges to launch these employable education courses for the students.

The notification of the first merit list will be released on September 14.
