The outstation students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar staged a protest at Jantar Mantar on Wednesday against the ministry of human resources development’s handling of the NIT row.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has been backing the students in their protest in large numbers. For the last couple of days, the NIT students have been protesting and mobilising support for their movement.

“We have been supporting NIT Srinagar students since day one. Although we have ideological differences, we are still supporting them. Not only our organisation, but students from other universities are also joining in. This protest is basically about hypocrisy of the government which is not ready to address the demands of the students,” NSUI secretary Hasiba Amin said.

“Around 50 to 80 more students from NIT Srinagar will be coming to Delhi on Wednesday night to join the ongoing protest. The students have also submitted a memorandum with their demands to Union HRD minister Smriti Irani, but there has been no response yet,” the NSUI secretary added.
