One dead, Three injured in stabbing spree in Chirag Dilli
A 28-year-old man allegedly murdered his mother-in-law and left three others injured at his in-laws’ house in Chirag Dilli where he went on a stabbing spree on Friday evening.
The accused also sustained critical injuries after he was caught and thrashed by the neighbours. Among the victims was his minor daughter whom he allegedly pushed from the terrace. The accused has been identified as Chintu and preliminary investigations have revealed that he had a feud with his wife over dowry demands, which is also the suspected motive behind the murderous attack.
The cops said that the man’s mother-in-law died of the injuries caused by a large tent nail that the accused had used as a weapon, while fours others were admitted to a hospital, two of whom were said to be very critical.
The incident was reported at the Jatav Basti area of Malviya Nagar around 7.45pm.
“Chintu first attacked his wife, Renu. When his mother-in-law Roshni tried to intervene, he hit her on the head. His father-in-law Trilok Chand too was injured in the attack. He dragged Renu by her hair and took her to the terrace. When Chintu’s children Laddoo (5) and Neha (7) called for help, he pushed Neha off the terrace,” said a police officer.
Neighbours were alarmed by the commotion and gathered outside the house. Chintu dropped the nail and tried to flee, but was caught by the locals. He was beaten up and locked up in a room until the police arrived. The four people, including Renu and Roshni, were admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where Roshni was declared dead on arrival, while the others were said to be critical with severe head injuries. Renu’s brother, Ashwani, who was out for work, told the cops that Chintu had married Renu eight years back, he belonged to a village in Palwal.
Family members purportedly told the police that since marriage, Chintu and his family members had been harassing Renu over dowry. Chintu’s family members had even assaulted Renu after which she had returned to her parents. In their statement, they claimed that Chintu had been threatening them with dire consequences.
