A Delhi court has ordered lodging of a perjury case against a woman for levelling false rape charges against three men, observing that she had caused humiliation to the accused and made a mockery of the judicial system.
The court pulled up the woman, a mother of two daughters, for implicating the men in a criminal case of “serious nature” knowing that they had not committed any crime against her thus setting in motion the state machinery and getting the accused chargesheeted.
“I am of the opinion that this is a clear case of furnishing deliberate false information to police, a public authority, thereby making the police use its lawful authority to cause injury to the reputation of the accused.
“Therefore, I deem it proper to prosecute the prosecutrix for the criminal offence (perjury) in the interest of justice and for making mockery of the judicial system by which precious time of the court has been wasted in conducting the trial of admitted false case, where the accused have suffered humiliation and distress besides facing expenses for litigation,” additional sessions judge Shail Jain, said.
The court directed its staff to file a court complaint against the woman before the chief metropolitan magistrate for furnishing false information to the police. The order came as the court acquitted the three men on the charge of rape.
