Private college dean robbed of SUV, cash
Dean of a private college in the city was allegedly robbed of his sports utility vehicle (SUV) and Rs 50,000 in cash by unidentified armed assailants in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala late on Monday evening.
Forty-two-year-old Satbir Singh is dean of the Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology in Rohini’s Sector 22, which is affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in Delhi. He lives with his family in Bahadurgarh.
After attending an engagement ceremony in northwest Delhi’s Netaji Subhash Place, Mr Singh late on Monday dropped off friends at their respective homes in his SUV. On his way home, when Mr Singh reached Nizampur, a car overtook him and stopped in front of his vehicle. The driver got down and told Mr Singh that he was responsible for an accident sometime back while he was on his way, said a senior police official. Before Mr Singh could understand anything, two unidentified assailants bearing pistols got into his car and made him move to the back seat. They held him hostage with a country-made pistol.
The assailants also told him not to raise an alarm or else they would shoot, said the police source. After driving Mr Singh around for half-an-hour and crossing the Kherpur toll booth, the assailants threw him from the running vehicle in a nearby field. “Mr Singh immediately called the police and a team was rushed to him,” said the police officer. According to Mr Singh, there was Rs 50,000 in cash along with some documents in his car and all the men had their faces covered with a cloth. An FIR under Sections 365, 352, 357 and 34 against unknown persons has been registered and the police is trying to trace and nab the assailants according to the information received from Mr Singh.
