Reshuffle of principals to raise quality of education
To boost the performance of the government schools, the AAP government has gone for a major interchange of the school principals in the national capital. The principals of schools whose performance was rated best have been given charge of schools which were rated as the worst. The principals of schools rated worst have been given non-teaching assignments in different government departments.
A source said that the government had conducted a survey of schools to check their teaching methodology, students results, resource management and cleanliness. “The government identified 30 worst schools and an equal number of best schools.” It was on the basis of the grading that the transfers of the principals was effected by the education department.
There are reports that the government was also planning to set up a team of efficient officers to carry out regular inspections of the schools. “There will be constant monitoring of the schools which were rated in the worst category,” a senior officer told this newspaper. “Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who himself holds the education portfolio, will be taking first hand account of the schools from the team. He himself will be conducting surprise checks.”
The government is also in the process of hiring 5,000 new teachers from September. “Those who had qualified examination in 2012 are being placed in various schools,” the officer said. The education department has also started promoting teachers who are performing well. About 580 trained graduate teachers have been promoted to the rank of post-graduate teachers.
