Sheila passes buck up or down: Modi
Giving a major boost to Delhi BJP’s Assembly poll campaign at a massive rally in the Japanese Park, Rohini, on Sunday, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and star campaigner Narendra Modi launched a strident attack on chief minister Sheila Dikshit accusing her of shirking responsibilities by passing the buck either “up or down”. Mr Modi further said that Ms Dikshit was the happiest chief minister in the country. “Delhi chief minister is one of the happiest chief ministers in India as she has to do nothing but only cut ribbons in programmes. She does not have to worry about a host of issues and departments like chief ministers of other states,” he said. Referring to the December 16 gangrape incident, Mr Modi said, “When the case of brutal gangrape was reported, she said that even her daughter does not feel safe in the city and claimed that the law and order is under the Centre. She always evades responsibility,” he said. Slamming Ms Dikshit for her advise to city girls not to roam late in the night, he said, “When asked about the Nirbhaya case she said she feels the same pain for her as any mother would and simultaneously she advised the city girls to return home early. Any mother can advise her daughter the same. Where is the responsibility of the chief minister Has she said anything like the CM of the state She always passes the accountability to someone else, be it law and order or roads.” “If there are potholes on the roads she puts the responsibility on the municipal corporation. If there is a law and order problem, she says the police force in Delhi functions under the Central government. She does not have any responsibility,” he said. Picking up the issue of corruption in hosting of the Commonwealth Games in the capital in 2010, Mr Modi termed the Games as a shame for the country, Mr Modi accused the city and Union governments for embarrassing the country through scams in the Games. “Not only India’s dignity but also the sportsman spirit was lost in the CWG. Even for this, Ms Dikshit passes the buck to committees claiming that it is their duty to probe the scams. Other countries like South Korea and China organised Olympics and showed their power to the world,” he said. South Korea hosted the Olympics and it aided in the country’s development and attracted global attention. Our country has been robbed of such opportunities for the next 20 years,” Mr Modi said. Taking a cue from Mr Modi, Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel also targeted chief minister Sheila Dikshit, and even termed her as “Dadi Maa” (grandmother). Mr Goel accused the CM for not acting on high electricity rates and unemployment. Mr Modi’s rally is expected to give the Delhi BJP a major boost as it aims to return to power in the city after a gap of 15 years. However, Ms Dikshit’s son and Congress MP from East Delhi, Sandeep Dikshit, refuted the allegations of BJP leaders. “Mr Modi has absolutely no idea of Delhi so he should not dare to comment on the Delhi government. They do not have any data to counter Delhi as Delhi is far ahead of Gujarat in terms of infrastructure and other facilities. Though women’s safety is a very important issue but they should look at other BJP-led states like Madhya Pradesh that are at the top of the chart in rape cases,” he said.
