Speak in unison or face action: Congress to leaders
The Congress is contemplating action against several city leaders for demanding dismissal of the AAP government in Delhi without seeking prior permission from the party leadership. These leaders had recently submitted a memorandum to lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung seeking dismissal of the Arvind Kejriwal government for its total failure to provide relief to Delhiites who have had a horrifying experience due to the recent waterlogging problem in the city.
The matter was discussed during a meeting on Tuesday which among others was attended by AICC in-charge of Delhi Congress P. C. Chacko, local party president Ajay Maken, former MPs Sajjan Kumar and Mahabal Mishra among others. All the 14 block presidents and party candidates who had contested in 21 Assembly seats, whose MLAs are under the scanner of the EC for taking up the job of parliamentary secretaries in the AAP government were also present. The meeting, which was called to discuss the party’s strategy for the municipal elections next year and the possibility of bye-elections in 21 Assembly seats in case the President expels their legislators for holding office of profit as parliamentary secretaries, deliberated at length on the memorandum submitted by the city leaders to the L-G. A local leader present at the meeting said that Mr Chacko took strong exception to the fact that the party leaders had gone to Raj Niwas without seeking prior approval of the Congress leadership. He made it clear that strict action would be taken against those leaders who were running a parallel organisation to the PCC. He reportedly made it clear that actions of any leader who speak in double voice won’t be tolerated.
