Even as JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar’s speech on Thursday night earned him appreciation on social networking websites, his fellow students and supporters in the university said that the “fight has just begun.”

Aakansha, a friend of Mr Kumar since last four years, feels it’s not a judicial battle anymore as the true battle has just begun. “It’s a proud feeling to have Kanhaiya back on campus. After listening to his speech, everyone is more confident about his political leadership skills. I would say this is just a strong beginning: It is not a judicial battle anymore, it is a long fight, which might go up to 2019. I would just like to say all those who have build their opinions about JNU in the last 15 days on the basis of Twitter and prime time debates, its a reality check for them,” said the JNU student who has known Mr Kumar even before he became the students’ body president.

Echoing Aakansha’s views, Moggallan Bharti, an independent researcher in JNU, said: “Overwhelming reception to Kanhaiya’s speech outside JNU is the indicator of the youth’s thinking. And he is thinking against this communal fascist BJP government. Kanhaiya has basically exposed the whole charade of the Prime Minister and the politics of lies and fabrication propagated by the RSS in India.”

“The speech is a call to all progressive minded people, especially the youth, to see through lies of the current government and work together to for a government which could bring justice, equality and socialism for all.”

There are students who still feel that the biggest victory would be when Mr Kumar and all the other students would be free from all the charges. Om, a member of Aisa, said: “People are happy that Kanhaiya is back. But the longer plan of action is to get Kanhaiya and the other students released from all the charges. Kanhaiya spoke freely with his spirit and strong will and it surely left us all with a room for hope.”
