Claiming that odd-even car rationing scheme is being misused by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to garner cheap publicity, BJP Rajya Sabha member and former Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel announced on Friday that he will break the odd even rule on Monday and pay the fine of Rs 2,000. Mr Goel said that his protest is against the fact that the chief minister is using this scheme as a publicity stunt.

Mr Goel alleged that hard-earned funds of the taxpayers, amounting to crores of rupees is being used every day to publicise Mr Kejriwal’s photos and nothing else. “From now onwards, every 15 days the city witnesses the drama of odd-even scheme. If Mr Kejriwal is so convinced about the scheme and is basking in self-compliments about the same, then why spend crore of rupees on its publicity and not implement it permanently at one go,” asked Mr Goel.

According to Mr Goel, the Delhi government’s odd-even scheme is all about maximum publicity, minimum effect.

“An effective solution requires a comprehensive policy package. If the chief minister is serious about pollution, then he would have focused on soil, road dust, coal flyash, biomass and municipal solid waste burning, which are major sources of pollution, which he has not done in the past year,” he said.
