Woman dies in mishap, siblings hurt
A 22-year-old woman was killed while three others, including her younger brother and sister, suffered severe injuries after their car collided with a Metro pillar in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area.
A senior police official said that the incident took place in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday last week. The deceased was identified as Rupali Jain, a resident of Arhihant Nagar in Paschim Vihar area.
“The deceased, along with her younger brother Aditya Jain, sister Nivita and her friend Pooja was returning home after attending a marriage ceremony in Gurgaon. Aditya was driving the car while Rupali was sitting beside him. Nivita and Pooja were sitting on the rear seat of the car. When they reached Rajouri Garden area, Aditya lost control over the car and rammed into a Metro pillar. The collision of the impact was so high that front portion of the car was totally damaged,” the official said.
A passerby called the PCR to report about the incident. A PCR van was immediately sent to the spot. The PCR personnel reached at the spot, they pulled out the victims and moved them to a hospital where Rupali was declared brought dead on arrival while Aditya, Pooja and Nivita were admitted to the ICU of the hospital.
The police said that Pooja and Nivita were still undergoing treatment and their conditions were stated to be critical by the doctors. “Doctors had to amputate one leg of Aditya. He was later discharged from the hospital,” the police said.
The police said that they have lodged a case under Section 304A (culpable homicide and not amounting to murder) against Aditya at the Rajouri Garden police station.
Meanwhile, speaking to this newspaper, Monica Jain, the mother of the deceased said that she was heartbroken after the incident. She said that she had donated the eyes of her daughter. “I am extremely sad. My daughter is no more, son has lost one leg and another is fighting for her life in the hospital. I donated her eyes so that someone else could see the world. This incident has changed our entire life. We donated her eyes to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital from where it went to AIIMS for donation,” she sobbed while speaking.
